Given the decrepit appearance of its vines, “over the hill” would be an apt description of the vineyard used to produce the grapes for this wine. Planted by the pioneering Hardy family back in the 1860’s, the gnarly old vines are not the prettiest to look at and give up only a meager yield each vintage.
However from those 140 year old vines come sparse but intensely flavoured berries for a stunning McLaren Vale classic, rich, dark and brooding, here are mouthfuls of vinous pleasure. Subtle oak, soft tannins and long , complex flavours combining seamlessly to round out a most impressive wine.
